I2C Server Provides Internet Access
HOPEWELL, New Jersey USA, March 29, 2004 - Micro Computer Control Corporation (MCC) today announced the introduction of the iPort/LANTM, a networked I2C Bus server for LAN, WAN, and Internet access to I2C Bus systems.
In information technology (IT) and factory automation applications, reliability rules. The ability to monitor and take corrective action has become a required feature in customer acceptance of next-generation equipment. The I2C Bus has become a centerpiece of system reliability by taking on the important role of monitoring voltages, temperatures, and other critical parameters in computer systems and factory automation equipment.
The iPort/LAN addresses the system monitoring needs of IT and factory managers by combining the low-cost communication features of I2C with the flexibility of Ethernet networking and the Internet. With its Ethernet interface, advanced processor, fast communications, larger data buffers, and optimized firmware, the iPort/LAN makes a good choice for local or remote access to I2C Bus systems.
Supporting Master, Slave, Transmit and Receive operations, the iPort/LAN gives users access to multi-master systems at selectable bus speeds up to 400 kHz (Fast Mode), with messages up to 64K bytes in length. The iPort/LAN provides immediate access to I2C devices with its included Message Manager and Message Center application software, or a user can create custom applications using high-level commands in the iPort/LAN's application program interface.
Compatible with 3.3 V to 5 V I2C buses, the iPort/LAN can be powered from its external power supply, or the I2C Bus. In addition to standard clock and data signaling, provisions are also made to sense or control the bus interrupt signal found on many slave devices.
Pricing and Availability
The iPort/LAN (#MIIC-205), available Q2 2004, sells for US$500 in single unit quantities. All MCC I2C Bus products are available worldwide through a network of distributors. Additional product information is available on the MCC web site at www.mcc-us.com.
